Rare Handwritten Letter by Miracle Worker Rabbi Mordche’le of Oshmina

Slonim, 1911
Handwritten letter of endorsement signed by Rabbi Mordechai Wiesel Rosenblatt, better known as Rabbi Mordche’le Oshminer, Av Beis Din of Oshmina and Slonim.

The letter is addressed to Rabbi Yaakov Chaim Sarna of Oshmina, written during the time that he wished to publish the manuscripts of his father, Rabbi Shraga Feivel Sarna, Av Beis Din of Haridak.

Rabbi Yaakov Chaim was the father of Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna, Rosh Yeshiva of Chevron.

Rabbi Mordche’le Oshminer (1837 – 1916) was renowned throughout Lithuania and Poland as a pious scholar and miracle worker. Thousands would flock to him for a blessing, and countless miraculous stories are accredited to him. The load of travelers seeking blessing became so heavy that Rabbi Mordche’le was was compelled to publish a notice in the local newspaper stating that he could no longer bear the burden of the public and urging them not to come to him (HaMelitz, 28 Av 1889).

Rabbi Mordche’le won the respect of the generation’s leaders as a great scholar in Hidden and Revealed Torah. The Chofetz Chaim himself attested that Rabbi Mordche’le put himself in danger countless times for the sake of strengthening religion.
