Never Before Published Manuscript
Chiddushim from Scholars of Prague
Moravia, 1764
A handwritten manuscript of 104 pages containing Torah insights on various topics from Tanach, Talmud, and halachic authorities, as well as a discourse on the length of the exile. Some of the teachings come from the author’s Rabbanim, while others are his own.
In several places, the author cites Torah teachings from great scholars of Moravia and Germany:
· From Rabbi Nesanel Weil, author of Korban Nesanel:
"Parshas Pinchas from my master and teacher, our rabbi, Rabbi Nesanel, may he live" (leaf 18a, with his name also appearing explicitly in leaves 22a, 37a, 42a).
· From Rabbi Zerach Eidelitz, one of the great sages of Prague:
"Related to Pesach… from my master and teacher, the gaon Rabbi Zerach Eidelitz, may he live" (leaf 13a).
· He also references the Av Beis Din of P. B. (likely Pressburg) (leaf 1a) and Rabbi David Oppenheim, Av Beis Din of Prague (leaf 45b).
Throughout the manuscript, the author frequently quotes ‘אמ"ו’ -"my master and teacher" or "my master and teacher said" ("Adoni Mori VeRabi" or "Amar Mori VeRabi"), but it is unclear to whom he is referring.
On the front page there is a dated signature, possibly that of the manuscript’s author, corresponding to the year 1764:
"Written as the work of my hands, not for self-praise, the humble Elazar ben Moreinu Harav Shlomo Zalman… Dated 1764"
On leaf 45b, the author mentions his stay in Kremsier, Moravia.
The manuscript has never been published. Its contents have not been thoroughly researched, but a preliminary review found that one passage from Rabbi Nesanel Weil appears in his sefer Toras Nesanel, albeit with a variation in wording.
