Letter of Blessing for Wedding from the Rebbe Rayatz of Lubavitch, with Original Envelope

Riga, 1929
A heartfelt letter of blessing signed by the holy hand of the Admor Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn of Lubavitch, father-in-law of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

In the letter, the Rebbe blesses the chassan:

"Shalom U’Veracha,

With this, I extend my heartfelt mazal tov blessings
for your wedding with your kallah.
May Hashem grant that your union be in a good and auspicious time, materially and spiritually,
and may you build a Jewish home based on the foundations of Torah and mitzvos,
conducting yourselves in the ways of Chassidus,
and may all be well for you, in body and soul.
Sincerely, with blessings,
 Yosef Yitzchak"

The Rebbe Rayatz, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn (1880-1950) was the sixth Rebbe in the Chabad-Lubavitch dynasty, which he led from 1920. He worked extensively to strengthen Yiddishkeit in Russia under Soviet rule, establishing a secret network of Talmud Torahs and yeshivas. He was arrested and sentenced to death but was finally released. In 1940 he immigrated to the United States and continued building there the great Chabad Chassidus.

His son-in-law and successor is the Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, the seventh Rebbe in the Lubavitch dynasty.

Riga, 19 Adar Sheini 1929. Written by the Rebbe’s secretary, Rabbi Yechezkel Feigin, with the Rebbe’s handwritten signature at the end. Folded leaf.
Page size: 13.6 x 21.5 cm.
Condition: Good.

Included is the original envelope in which the letter was sent. It was sent to Jerusalem, to the chassan’s grandfather, Rabbi Shneur Zalman Havlin, one of the prominent Chabad chassidim in Eretz Yisrael and a renowned chozer (someone who orally repeats the words of the Rebbe, for later audiences) of the Rebbe Rashab.

The envelope has tears, due to opening.
