Akeidas Yitzchak
Important Torah Commentary and Fundamentals of Emunah
Venice, 1573
A comprehensive and foundational commentary on the Chamisha Chumshei Torah and the Megillos by Rabbi Yitzchak Arama, author of the ‘Akeidah’ and among the most prominent of the sages expelled from Spain.
The Chida, in ‘Shem HaGedolim’, testifies to the greatness of this sefer, stating that “all the sefarim of darshanim of earlier generations drank faithfully from its waters……..”
The publisher of this edition writes on the final page that the work is of the utmost importance, likening it to the halachic composition of “the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Karo, author of the Beis Yosef” (who passed away approximately two years later). The comparison arises from the fact that both drew upon all the earlier commentaries and composed a single, comprehensive teaching based on them.
A large and thick volume, printed “in the form and image of the Bomberg editions of previous years”, featuring 67 lines per column!
Venice, 1573. Page Count: 290, 297–308, [12] leaves.
Size: 34 cm.
Condition: Repairs to three leaves, with noticeable paper restoration at the bottom of the final leaf (without loss of text). A few small holes, minor tears, and stains. Trimmed margins on several leaves. Leather binding.

Distinguished copy belonging to Three Sages of Pesaro: The title page features the signature of Rabbi Asher Viterbo, author of ‘Minchah Chadashah’ and prominent collector of rare sefarim. Below it is an inscription in the hand of Rabbi Moshe Yedidya Polinio, noting that Rabbi Asher gifted the sefer to “the honorable R’ Tirani” (likely Rabbi Mattityah Nissim Tirani, cousin of Rabbi Daniel Tirani), from whom Rabbi Moshe Yedidya later acquired it.
Includes notes in Italian style script.
Preserved between the leaves is an interesting letter of thanks from the mid-1800s, written by “Nevo HaKohen” to the philanthropist “Mordechai Natan”, who gifted him the sefer. An additional inscription from Nevo HaKohen appears on the front flyleaf. The identity of the writer is unknown.
