The Personal Zohar of the Wondrous Rebbe, Rabbi Avraham Mattisyahu of Shtefanesht
Shapira Press
Zhitomir, 1863
Sefer HaZohar on Chumash Bereishis, with glosses from the Ramchal — a foundational work of Kabbalistic Torah.
The title page features the impressive stamp of the holy tzaddik, the Admor Rabbi Avraham Mattisyahu of Shtefanesht, bearing the emblem of the House of Ruzhin: a lion in the center of the stamp. A second stamp of his is impressed on leaf [3], in red ink.
The Admor Rabbi Avraham Mattisyahu of Shtefanesht (1848-1933) was the only son of the Admor Rabbi Menachem Nachum of Shtefanesht. His illustrious grandfather, the holy Ruzhiner, was the mohel by his bris and at the age of three taught him the letters of the Alef-Beis. Rabbi Avraham Mattisyahu’s fame spread throughout Europe and his wisdom and pure service of Hashem drew countless chassidim to his doorstep to entreat him for counsel, blessings, and salvation.
The Rebbe’s service of Hashem was legendary, as he prayed for a very long time and spoke little. In 1969, his body was brought to Eretz Yisrael and was buried in Nachalas Yitzchak. Until today, people from around the world flock to his gravesite to pray for salvation and success in his merit.

Sefarim printed in Zhitomir by the legendary Shapira family, grandsons of the holy Admor Rabbi Pinchas of Koritz, were sought after by tzaddikim, rebbes and chassidim, and many specifically sought to pray and study from the sefarim printed by their holy hand.
The Shomer Emunim wrote: “Every God-fearing person should strive to acquire old printed sefarim… especially from the Slavita and Zhitomir presses of the descendants of the holy Rabbi of Koritz, who were supremely holy printers.” (Taharas Hakodesh Chapter 6)
