"My Beloved Dear Brother": A Family Letter from the Lev Simcha to his Brother the Pnei Menachem of Gur
Handwritten autographed letter of the Admor Rabbi Simcha Bunim Alter, author of ‘Lev Simcha’, from his vacation in the resort town of Arosa, Switzerland.
Sent to his brother Rabbi Pinchas Menachem, Rosh Yeshiva of Sefas Emes, who later succeeded him in leading the chassidus.
In the letter, the Rebbe conveys news about family matters and the shidduch for his daughter (who is the sister of the current Gerrer Rebbe shlita).
Rabbi Simcha Bunim Alter, author of ‘Lev Simcha’ (1898-1992), was named "Simcha Bunim" after Rabbi Simcha Bunim of Peshischa, at the instruction of his grandfather the Sefas Emes. Following the passing of his brother, the Beis Yisrael, in 1977, he reluctantly accepted the leadership of the chassidus. He always conducted himself with humility and concealed his greatness in Torah and righteousness. He led the chassidus with distinction and established many takanos for the benefit of his chassidim.
His brother, the Admor Rabbi Pinchas Menachem Alter, author of Pnei Menachem (1926-1996), was the seventh Rebbe in the Gur dynasty, son of the Imrei Emes and grandson of the Sefas Emes. A genius and versed in all realms of Torah, he served for many years as Rosh Yeshivah of Yeshivas Sfas Emes before succeeding his brother the Lev Simcha as Rebbe of Gur.
Postcard approximately 10.5 x 15 cm in size. Undated, with a pastoral picture of the snow-covered resort town of Arosa. All in the Rebbe’s handwriting and with his autograph. Good condition.
